...movies...oh! go see Zombie Land...what? You don't need to know more, go see it NOW!!!
Games...Played Brutal Legends, Its very well acted (voice and animation) I feel that Jack Black is a better voice actor than live action actor. His voice is very powerful and animated and just is perfect for voice work. This is coming from someone that typically doesn't enjoy his movies (with the exception of Kung Fu Panda which is amazing). The game also features an all around cast of intresting characters, for example, the guardian of metal is played by none other than ozzy fucking osborne and the main villian is voiced by Tim Curry (most known for rocky horror but also happens to be one of the most underated and most talented character actors out there.)...lets see who else? Salli Richardson-Whitfield who is the voice Elisa Maza in Disney's Gargoyles, Kath Soucie (Sally from sonic the hedgehog), Cam Clarke (liquid snake from Metal Gear solid), and Julie Strain (heavy Metal 2000) who tends to suck in anything she's in but is a required set peice for anything that wants to claim to be truely metal.
The soundtrack is also AMAZING if you like good heavy metal (if you can't stand metal then stay away from this game) It has over 90 tracks by bands like: Mega Death, Ozzy (blacksabath and solo Ozzy), Judist Priest, Deathklock, Dragon Force, Scorpians, Motorhead, Tanachious D (of course), and so on.
Ok so the acting and music are amazing...too bad the game is only so so. This is by the same guy that brought us Psychonauts which i thought was creative but lacked in actual game play. The same can be said of Brutal legends, it's part exploration (ala GTA) and part...RTS, yup. I'm not a huge RTS fan but i can enjoy them and i found Brutal Legend an intresting experiment. It's pretty watered down but it has an ability that i think should be standard in future RTS's: instead of playing an invisible commander looking at the map from the sky you are actually the general and are right in the thick of things with your men. This means that you can help them fight off enemies (you can combine with any single unit to bolster their powers) it's really cool and to solve the problem of not being able to see the whole map while on the ground your commander can take flight with a push of a button (you can't attack in this mode but it allows you to quickly look around the map and order your troops where you want before rejoining them on any front). If you die your respawned at your base and the enemy gets bounus money for more troops but you don't automatically lose. It really makes the experience more personal, like your making a difference in a battle rather than watching your forces duke it out from a far. If you beefed up the mechanics this style of play would be steller in the RTS realm. So i'd give it a B- C+.
